If you are choosing a platform to run the guest journey, you have probably arrived at two different answers to the same question: how do you run check-in, messaging, compliance and revenue without adding headcount?
Enso Connect and UpMarket overlap more than a quick glance suggests. Both do digital check-in. Both put guest messaging in a unified inbox. Both sell extras. Both now market AI automation, workflows and escalation to staff. The difference is not what each one lists — it is what each one is built around. Enso is built around a guest-facing app that monetises the stay. UpMarket is built around executing the entire journey, including the regulated parts, between your PMS and your guests.
The short version
Enso Connect is a guest experience platform. Its Boarding Pass is a white-label, no-download guest app reached by a link: digital check-in with photo and video steps, ID and deposit screening, e-signed rental agreements, tourist tax, a guidebook, Apple Wallet, upsells and concierge requests. Around it sit EnsoAI (in Copilot and Autopilot modes), a unified inbox across Airbnb, Booking.com, VRBO, WhatsApp, SMS and email, and no-code workflows. Guest registration and authority reporting is sold as a paid add-on at $2–5 per listing per month.
UpMarket is an AI guest management platform — the execution layer between your PMS and your guests. One system runs AI communication, virtual concierge, the guest app, check-in, identity verification, native compliance reporting, payments and deposits, smart access, proactive upselling and escalation to your staff. It is not a chatbot, and it is not a PMS.

Where Enso Connect is genuinely strong
The Boarding Pass is a good guest app. It covers verification, deposits, agreements, tourist tax, guidebooks and upsells in one link, with no download — and a guest who opens it can do almost everything themselves. Authority reporting across 11 filing countries is real coverage, and EnsoAI is a serious attempt at AI-assisted messaging, not a bolted-on chatbot.
Two things to weigh before you take its numbers at face value. Its compliance reporting is a module you buy on top of the subscription, and the page carries a “powered by chekin hostkit” caption that does not explain who runs the filing. And its published figures are vendor-authored and inconsistent across its own pages — $50M and $30M of upsell revenue, and ROI quoted as 4x, 4.7x and 5.3x. Treat them as directional, not measured.
Why operators choose UpMarket
1. Compliance is native, not an add-on
This is the sharpest difference between the two. On Enso, authority reporting is a paid module priced per listing per month, sitting alongside other add-ons such as smart locks and background checks. On UpMarket, compliance is the platform: the guest record collected at check-in, the identity verified against it, and the report to the national authority produced from that same record, with support when a submission is queried.
What that means for an operator is not a feature checkbox. It is one connected process across guest data, check-in, reporting and support — no second vendor to onboard, no registration file to reconcile against a booking afterwards, and no per-listing module for something the law requires of every guest. That matters most in markets such as Spain and Portugal, where the reporting obligation applies to every stay.
2. WhatsApp is the channel, not one integration among six
Enso lists WhatsApp as a live integration inside a six-channel inbox. UpMarket is built around it: proactive communication before arrival, AI answers in the thread during the stay, relevant offers surfaced in that same conversation instead of in a separate app the guest has to open, and handover to a staff member with the full thread attached when the AI should stop.
For operators whose guests live on WhatsApp — across Europe and Latin America, that is most of them — this is the difference between the journey happening in one thread and the journey being split between a thread, a portal and an email.
3. The Upsell Advisor sells in the conversation
Enso’s upselling is a catalogue: add-ons and experiences, each with its own page, condition-based offers, commissions billed separately. It works when the guest is already browsing the app.
The Upsell Advisor works where the opportunity actually appears. It reads what the guest is asking and introduces the relevant offer at that moment — an early check-in when they mention a morning flight, a late checkout when they ask about a late departure, a transfer when they ask how to get there. That is revenue from conversations that were going to happen anyway, rather than a shop the guest has to visit.
4. Integration depth, not integration counts
Enso’s directory lists 16 PMS and channel connectors, even though its pricing page claims 50+. UpMarket’s figure of more than 70 covers property management systems and smart access providers together.
The count is not the argument. The questions that decide it are: what does the platform pull from your PMS, what can it push back, and do your existing check-in and access processes survive? Because UpMarket runs as a layer on top of your stack rather than replacing it, you keep the PMS your team already knows and the access hardware already on the doors. If your PMS appears on Enso’s list, ask those three questions of both platforms before you decide.
5. One connected process, not five modules
Enso’s pieces are real, but they are pieces: a guest app, add-on compliance, add-on smart locks, separately billed commissions. Each has its own configuration and its own line on the invoice.
UpMarket’s case is that the same guest record drives check-in, identity verification, the compliance report, payments, deposits, smart access and the upsell conversation. When something goes wrong on a Friday night, there is one place to look.
What that looks like in a normal week
A check-in that arrives incomplete. The guest uploads an ID but leaves an address blank. Because the registration record and the check-in flow are the same process, the missing field is chased in the same thread before arrival — not discovered by an admin reconciling files after the guest has left.
A question at 23:40. The AI answers from your property’s information, in WhatsApp, in the guest’s language. If the question falls outside what it should handle, the conversation is escalated to the right staff member with the context attached. How quickly it is answered then depends on your team’s availability and the escalation rules you set.
An upsell moment that was already happening. A guest mentions an early flight. The offer goes into that same conversation, in context, while they are still deciding — instead of waiting in a catalogue they may never open.
A deposit and an access instruction. Both sit in the journey that starts at booking and ends at the door, so payment conditions and access details are handled in the same flow rather than by two systems that never speak.
A guest who needs a person. A complaint is not an automation problem. It is routed to staff with the full history, so the human who picks it up starts from context rather than from “hello, how can I help?”.
How to decide
Both platforms now advertise AI automation, workflows and escalation, so “do they have AI?” is no longer the question. Ask these instead: is compliance native or a module I buy per listing? Is WhatsApp the centre of the platform or one channel among six? Does one guest record drive check-in, access and reporting together — or do I configure and pay for each separately?
If your answers matter to you — regulated markets, multilingual guests, WhatsApp as the main channel, and a PMS and access hardware you intend to keep — then you are looking for a guest management system rather than a guest app, and that is what UpMarket is. FAQ
Is UpMarket a chatbot? No. UpMarket is an AI guest management platform — the execution layer between your PMS and your guests. Messaging is one part of it, alongside check-in, identity verification, native compliance reporting, payments, deposits, smart access, upselling and workflow management.
Can I keep my existing PMS and access hardware? Yes. UpMarket integrates with more than 70 property management systems and smart access providers, and runs as a layer on top of your stack rather than replacing it — so your existing check-in and access processes stay where they are.
Does UpMarket handle legal guest reporting? Yes, natively. Guest registration and reporting to national authorities is part of the check-in flow in the markets you operate in, including Spain and Portugal.
How is that different from Enso Connect’s authority reporting? Enso sells authority reporting as a paid add-on at $2–5 per listing per month, with the filing back end not identified on its page. With UpMarket it is part of the platform, driven by the same guest record as check-in and identity verification.
